Welcome Note

Dear Reader,

In a philosophical sense the instinct to survive drives the spirit of Innovation!

One can see endless examples of this as you speed through any of the busy roads of an Indian metro and I am not talking about innovatively surviving the crazy life-threatening traffic! I am referring to the innovative ways vendors have found to bring you all those little things you wanted to buy but always forgot, or that weren’t there when you needed them but you found a way to manage without.

Surviving tough times in business also drives innovation. There are many times innovation could also mean New Ways of doing things, getting more from existing resources... For example, Mobile phones!-Today they serve many purposes beyond simple conversation including transferring money and browsing the web! Or Electricity-What was originally used mainly to light our homes now facilitates computing and communications. In all probability we are now using more electricity in our businesses than homes!!

As they say, what matters is not what you have, but what you do with what you have.

When you calculate the Total Cost of Ownership in terms of Capex and Opex for a Data Centre infrastructure, electricity as a single element stands as high as 20%. With server consolidation and virtualization being adopted to reduce capital investments, you will of course end up doing more useful work with less infrastructure, but perhaps at the cost of consuming more power for cooling.

In addition, many do not realize that air-flow management in racks & cabinets is a very critical component in Data Centre design. The prospect of crowding too many cables into vertical managers poses a problem for thermal management in cabinets. Clearly defined cable routing paths keep cables organized, using less space and avoiding the tangled mess of cables that can restrict airflow. Although real estate is valuable, not providing adequate floor, over-head and trough spaces for growth and manageability could only make the expansion of your Data Centre more expensive than the original build itself.

Similarly you need to design for redundant, fail-safe reliability and support the flow of data without errors that cause retransmission and delays. ADC KRONE is conscious of this and has in recent times driven innovation in its products & solutions that deliver such demonstrable value: New Networks New Ways is also ADC KRONE’s motto.

New Networks, our monthly newsletter is also based on this theme and you have seen our effort to bring technology and solutions closer to you. Moving forward we are working towards developing a new way of reaching to you with latest technology, solutions, articles and updates. Therefore New Networks will now be delivered to you quarterly, with more news, richer content in a new package. Stay tuned!

Happy reading!!
